Tradescantia cerinthoides 'sweetness' pink, white & green candy striped trailing

£8.50Price

We find Tradescantia such cheerful plants to have around the house with their candy striped leaves and pretty flowers.  Sweetness is one of our favourites and so adptly named.  Unlike Nanouk, which has similar coloured leaves, sweetness is less inclined to bolt and seems to flow, rather than trail, over the side of the pot.  When it flowers these appear on stems above the leaves and are a delicate pink.  Much like other members of the tradescantia family sweetness will need regular maintenance to keep her looking her best.  If the plant gets leggy (large gaps between the leaves on the stem) trim down to the top of a leaf bud and it will re-shoot from there creating a bushier plant.  It readily propogates so you can use those cuttings to spread a little sweetness to your friends and family.

This plant is supplied in a 10cm along with comprehensive care instructions

  • Positioning and care

Tradescantia are a family of plants which live under trees in dappled shade so provide it with good, but mostly indirect, light and protect it from direct midday light as this will result in a yellowing of the leaves.

It likes to be kept on the moist side, but not soggy, so water when the top of the growing medium feels dry to the touch but never leave it sitting in water as it is prone to root rot.

In a good position they can be fast growing so be ready to re-pot when you seen roots emerge from the draining holes in the bottom of the pot.  Use a mositure retentive growing medium and remember to add nutrients for you plant or feed it when you water it during the growing season.
