Begonia Rex Magic Colours Hugh Mclauch - Painted leaf
This is such a cheerful Begonia to have around due to its fascinating hues which range from silver pink through cerise to dark purples & greens with deep purple backs & dark purple veins. Rex begonias are grown for the beauty of their leaves & this is a brilliant example of these so called ‘painted leaf’ begonias. So much so that the breeder was so proud of it he named it after himself. For a plant with such a long name it will remain a small, compact plant which does not require support making it an ideal coffee table plant.
Positioning
Happy in a range of situations including bright but mostly indirect light to a sunnier spot. However avoid a spot where there in a intensity of midday sun as this risks leaf scorch.
Watering
Likes to be kept moist, but not water logged. Water when the top 1 or 2 cm of growing medium feels dry to the touch. Under, rather than over water, or direct the water on to the soil. Drops of water left on leaves will result in blemishes.
Growth Habits
This is a compact grower and tends to grow sideways as well as upwards so is an ideal coffee table plant as it requires no support.
